Your benefits
For residents of Unter- or Obersiggenthal, the fibre optic connection was provided free of charge and required no additional effort. As a result, you can benefit from a much wider choice of entertainment and communication services: television in HDTV quality with surround sound, as well as ultra-fast fibre optic Internet with transmission speeds of over 10 Gbit/s – with symmetrical upload and download rates.
This means you can rely on a stable, reliable and future-proof fibre optic connection.
Businesses in Untersiggenthal and Obersiggenthal received a free fibre optic connection to Siggenthal4net’s point-to-point FTTH network. This enables you to use professional services offered by telecommunications providers – tailored to all types of companies. A decisive advantage of fibre optic business Internet is the symmetrical bandwidth of over 10 Gbit/s, which ensures performance, stability and future-proof connectivity in your day-to-day operations.
As the owner of a property in Unter- und Obersiggenthal, you benefit in several ways from the fibre optic connection. With the Building Connection Agreement (GEV), you secured the free initial connection to Siggenthal4net’s comprehensive point-to-point FTTH fibre optic network. This unique opportunity was limited for existing buildings years ago – a subsequent connection costs several thousand francs. New buildings continue to receive this service free of charge, right up to each flat or business unit.
In addition, a fibre optic connection increases the value of the property and makes it significantly more attractive to tenants. With a fibre network in place, satellite dishes on the building façade also become unnecessary.
The fibre optic speed on Siggentahl4net’s point-to-point FTTH network exceeds 10 Gbit/s – with symmetrical upload and download rates. This means your connections for e-working, video conferences, Internet use and remote access to corporate or partner networks are significantly faster, more stable and more reliable.
As a result, you benefit from a substantial performance gain compared with traditional copper or coaxial connections.

Fibre Optic Network
Siggenthal4net’s comprehensive point-to-point FTTH fibre optic network is an ultra-modern data network that connects the entire areas of Unter- and Obersiggenthal. Every house, flat and business received its own dedicated fibre optic connection – free of charge and without shared bandwidth. The fibres transmit data at the speed of light, enabling Internet speeds far above 10 Gbit/s, with symmetrical upload and download rates and outstanding reliability. Siggenthal4net built and operates the comprehensive fibre optic network in Unter- and Obersiggenthal and provides all telecommunications providers with open and fair access. This allows providers to offer their multimedia services – such as Internet, TV and telephony – directly over the best fibre optic network available.
The demand for high and reliable bandwidth continues to grow steadily. Copper and coaxial cables have already reached their technical limits and can no longer be expanded. A point-to-point fibre optic network, by contrast, guarantees virtually unlimited data capacity at the speed of light. The point-to-point FTTH fibre network operated by Siggenthal4net delivers data at the highest speeds and with maximum reliability. This means that Untersiggenthal and Obersiggenthal are already ideally equipped today for the communication and data exchange needs of the future.
The fibre optic connection itself does not consume any electricity. Only the end device provided by your telecommunications provider – such as a modem or router – requires a very small amount of energy. On average, the power consumption is around 4 watts. For comparison: a 200-watt halogen lamp uses roughly 50 times more energy.
No, the fibre optic cable does not emit any harmful radiation. The transmission medium for the signals is pure light, which does not generate radiation and is completely harmless to health. An FTTH fibre optic connection therefore operates without any radiation exposure.
Fibre optics are extremely powerful. A single fibre per household or business is sufficient to meet the needs of even the most demanding users – including in the future, as speeds and data volumes are expected to increase by a factor of forty to fifty in the coming years.
An open and non-discriminatory fibre optic network (Open Access) means that Siggenthal4net’s point-to-point FTTH fibre optic network is freely accessible to all telecommunications providers. This enables all residents and businesses in Untersiggenthal and Obersiggenthal to choose their provider freely and switch at any time if needed. Siggenthal4net focuses exclusively on new buildings, renovations and refurbishments, as well as on the operation of the fibre optic infrastructure. In addition, Siggenthal4net does not offer any telecommunications or multimedia services itself.
Genuine competition does not require multiple parallel fibre optic networks. Siggenthal4net’s comprehensive point-to-point FTTH fibre optic network is a true open-access network and is accessible to all telecommunications providers – including Swisscom as a potential service provider. Multiple infrastructures do not create additional value; instead, they are a pure waste of money and lead only to significant economic costs, construction impact and environmental burden. A single modern, comprehensive fibre optic network with open access therefore provides the best foundation for innovation, sustainability and fair competition.
Direct access to Siggenthal4net’s fibre optic infrastructure is generally reserved for telecommunications providers. If you have specific requirements or a project related to our fibre optic infrastructure – for example in the area of dark fibre – please contact us at info[at]siggenthal4net.ch. We will be happy to review how we can support you with the implementation.

Construction of the fibre optic network
The fibre optic network rollout in Unter- and Obersiggenthal was commissioned by Baden4net to local construction and installation companies, which carried out the comprehensive deployment. In addition, Baden4net used the existing and available duct capacities of Elektrizitäts-Genossenschaft Siggenthal (EGS) for a fee. This made it possible to realise the comprehensive point-to-point FTTH fibre optic network in both an economically and environmentally efficient manner.
In Switzerland, FTTH fibre optic network standards are defined for both in-building installations and the interfaces between the point-to-point fibre optic network, telecommunications providers and end users.
The Siggenthal4net fibre optic network was implemented in line with BAKOM (Federal Office of Communications) recommendations and deliberately goes beyond them. The key difference lies in the full OTO Ready-for-Service deployment to every home and business.
The fully comprehensive point-to-point FTTH fibre optic network in Untersiggenthal and Obersiggenthal was built in line with the recommendations of BAKOM (Federal Office of Communications) to ensure the highest quality standards. Wherever possible, properties were connected using existing duct infrastructure. The fibre optic cables were installed in available duct capacity and connected via a properly sealed building entry point, typically located in the basement, to a building entry connection box. From there, an electrician routed the four fibres using an ultra-thin cable through the existing in-building infrastructure (e.g. conduits or riser zones) to each apartment or business unit. In every unit, an optical telecommunications outlet (OTO) was installed. The fibres are connected via this outlet to the Siggenthal4net central office. The end device (modem) can later be connected directly to the OTO.
The BAKOM (Federal Office of Communications) model recommendations are intended to ensure that FTTH fibre optic networks in Switzerland are built according to the latest state of the art. Siggenthal4net has implemented these recommendations and deliberately goes beyond them: each residential and business unit is connected with four fibres to the optical telecommunications outlet (OTO).
This ensures sufficient bandwidth capacity at all times and guarantees open access for all telecommunications providers. For customers, this provides a clear benefit: every home and business has a direct fibre optic connection, without bandwidth loss as typically experienced with DSL (copper) or cable TV (coaxial) networks.
As soon as the construction permit for your new development has been granted, please contact Siggenthal4net by e-mail at info[at]siggenthal4net.ch. Once we have received all the necessary information, you will be sent the contract for the initial connection. This will ensure that your new building is connected free of charge to Siggenthal4net’s point-to-point FTTH fibre optic network.
